About Us

What We Do

We are a family-owned and operated residential construction company, specializing in custom & semi-custom home builds, additions and large-scale renovations within our hometown of Summerville and its surrounding areas since 2016.

As natives, we find it important to be involved in our community, holding memberships with the Summerville Chamber of Commerce, Charleston Home Builders Association and the Palmetto Chapter of National Association of Women in Construction, as well as supporters of Dorchester Habitat for Humanity. Involvement with these organizations has given us the opportunity to give back to our community, while educating us on the issues our community faces and how we can better serve our community and clients.

We are committed to providing our clients with a seamless and professional experience, from the initial consultation to the final nail. We recognize that each client and project is unique, and we take an individualized approach to meet your specific needs and vision. With years of experience under our tool belts, we prioritize open and transparent communication, ensuring that you are informed and involved every step of the way.

We are builders of dreams, communities, and lasting relationships. Join us on this mission, and let’s build something exceptional together.

It is important to always do your homework before hiring a contractor.

Travis Mercer
Founder + Chief of Innovation

Travis was born and raised in Summerville, where he graduated from Summerville High School. His unwavering dedication to the craft of construction ignited during those formative years when he discovered the profound impact he could make by giving back to his community through home repairs for those less fortunate with the Salkehatchie Summer Service.

Over the subsequent decade, Travis honed his skills and amassed a wealth of knowledge under the guidance of various industry mentors. In 2016, he proudly earned his residential builders license and embarked on a mission to create homes that reflect not just craftsmanship but also heart. Thus, Heart Pine Homes was born.

Over the ensuing years, Travis skillfully steered the company’s growth, culminating in the significant milestone of bringing Danielle on board full time in 2023, thereby solidifying HPH as a true family business. With Danielle’s help, Travis has become more community-involved. He will be participating in the Summerville Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Dorchester program as part of the Class of 2024, soon to be known as the Best Class Ever.

Today, Travis and Danielle have made their home in the welcoming neighborhood of Knightsville with their sweet pup, Jake, whom you will see often across the HPH social media pages.

Danielle Mercer
Chief of Community Relations & Business Development

Danielle’s journey is a testament to her dedication to both her community and personal growth. Raised in Summerville and an alumna of Summerville High School, her path led her through a short stint in college, a fulfilling healthcare career with a short real estate adventure sprinkled in, before officially joining the family business full time in the summer of 2023 while graduating magna cum laude from Trident Technical College with her Associate in Applied Science in Management, Leadership Development.

Her love for Summerville shines through her involvement in the community. She completed the Summerville Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Dorchester program, where she was a standout in the Class of 2020. Danielle’s leadership talents were evident as she served as Project Leader for three impactful community service projects. Post-graduation in 2021, she continued to support the program by joining its Advisory Council and social committee. She also volunteers as a Chamber Ambassador. Driven by a passion for community service, Danielle founded Volunteer in the Ville, connecting eager residents with local nonprofits in need of assistance. She furthered her commitment by joining the special events committee for Dorchester Habitat for Humanity and establishing the empowering Summerville Sisterhood, as well as becoming a member of the National Association of Women in Construction’s Palmetto Chapter of SC. Danielle was awarded 2023 Volunteer of the Year by the Summerville Chamber of Commerce.

Danielle will be serving as a celebrity dancer in the 14th Annual Dancing With The ARK Stars fundraiser event on May 11th, 2024, benefitting The ARK of SC.

Danielle, Travis, and their beloved pup Jake currently call Knightsville home. In her leisure time, she enjoys reading, line dancing, attending country concerts, deer hunting, and savoring Edisto Beach vacations at Anele’s Pearl.

Joey Kenna
Chief of Projects

Joey’s journey began in the charming town of Summerville, where he planted the seeds of his lifelong fascination with business. A proud graduate of Cane Bay High School, he set his sights on the world of entrepreneurship while earning his business degree at Trident Technical College.

His passion for business soon found a home in the construction industry, where Joey embarked on a remarkable journey. Armed with multiple specialty contractor licenses, he’s been building a reputation for excellence one project at a time.

Joey’s commitment to personal and professional growth is unwavering. He thrives on the guidance of mentors and the pursuit of continuous development. Today, he proudly calls Summerville his home, and from here, he’s shaping the future of business in the construction world.

Jake Mercer
The Chief Himself

Meet Jake, the unsung hero of our company! While you may not spot him on the job site (unless the job site is our own home), he’s the real MVP working tirelessly behind the scenes, ensuring our team is firing on all cylinders. Jake has been an integral part of our construction family since he arrived in a laundry basket back in 2012. He might not wear a hard hat, but he certainly knows how to keep the crew in good spirits.

Jake’s paycheck is unique – he prefers it in the form of pets, ice cubes, and donuts. He’s got a sweet tooth for life, and his enthusiasm for these treats is infectious. When he’s not monitoring his human subordinates, you’ll find him indulging in these little luxuries and spreading good vibes all around.

Jake is more than just a construction aficionado. He enjoys long walks around the block, chasing tennis balls, and especially, playing catch with his collection of stuffed donut toys. And when he’s not on the clock, he loves to make a quick escape to hang out with his best buddies, Freddie and Hank, just across the street – where he also tends to unofficially supervise their construction company too.

Want to keep up with Jake’s escapades and see his smiling face in action? Follow his adventures on Instagram: @jakethesmilinglab. You won’t want to miss the charming antics and heartwarming moments he shares with his fans.

Jake is more than just a dog; he’s a beloved member of our team, bringing joy, positivity, and a whole lot of tail-wagging enthusiasm to our workplace. Join us in celebrating Jake and his unique role in our company’s story!
